In an excellent location. Food quality was very good and the staff were all very friendly.

The room looked a bit "tired" especially the bathroom.

They gave us a 4 poster bed with a double aspect room and we overslept it was so so comfy! I would definitely stay again what a good night's sleep!

The room was dated, general cleanliness was poor. Bathroom was disgusting!!

    When I checked out

The lighting, there was no duvet cover on the duvet and it was dirty and shabby

It was convenient for the place I wished to visit

It was chaotic. The lights were very dim. It was very funny. For example, the girl in a red top asked what we wanted for breakfast (when we had emerged from the dimly lit cupboard where we self-served ourselves to orange juice coffee etc.). I asked whether the tomatoes were fresh or tinned. She said I could have either. I therefore asked for fresh tomatoes with my bacon and egg. The tomato that arrived was uncooked. It was hilarious! They were serving an English breakfast, but clearly had no idea what that was. It was a bit like Fawlty Towers.

Very friendly helpfull staff. It has such a nice atmosphere and a warm feeling. The Bar food was very nice.

I thought the bedroom was too hot.

It was convenient for the venue of a wedding we were atending

I booked a double room without ensuite and was given and charged for ensuite - £20 more than I expected

The reception was chaotic and didn't have any record of my booking for 2 single and 1 double room, which I made on the internet and was confirmed about 3 months ago. However we were all found a bedroom. The staff were generally friendly and helpful

The bar meal was excellent due to the chef

We called the hotel "faulty towers" and the owner/manager had no communication with guests whatsoever and looked dirty and scruffy. The cleanliness - nil - dirty crockery/cutlery/sticky tables Towels weren't changed and when asked for clean towels were given musty damp smelling ones which we had to go and collect from the boiler room. A Sauna was in operation but can only imagine what that was like. Towels were not fit for purpose only 2 per bathroom - 1 bath towel and 1 smaller no hand towels at all. The whole place needs refurbishing, the toilet cistern kept sticking and the shower is a joke and dangerous as I slipped getting out of the bath as the bath doesn't have any hand rails and is quite high to get in and out of. The electric heater was broken with the wire cut through. The shower light above the mirror didn't work Beds were not made properly with the sheets just thrown over No bedside tables - only 1 lamp Electrical sockets were not safe with one of the double socket with two plugs being used and a hairdryer actually wired into the plug socket. Not to regulations and had not been Portable Appliance Tested. Which made us wonder whether anything in the hotel had been done! Definitely a fire hazard. Room was left unlocked by the 1 staff with windows left wide open Breakfast was an insult to a continental breakfast, hardly continental at all with no cheese/meats/pastries Cereals & yoghurts were available but tasted old and off. Croissants were on offer prepacked on the first day. Only marmalade or marmite Tea bags were all loose and mixed up so some tasted of lemon Coffee was even worse! Orange juice was watered down and disgusting Toast had to be asked for with no choice - then was given hardly toasted on oneside and stale white bread with the thin crust being used 2 slices for 2 people! Breakfast bar was dirty with not enough crockery/plates/glasses/ cutlery were all dirty and even serviettes were folded and had been used before!

The size of the room. The coffee was nice but no option of a cooked breakfast.

The room and bathroom hadn't been cleaned when we checked in and one bed wasn't made up. There was no duvet cover on the duvet and the toilet seat didn't stay up. Even though it would have been a good price for four people for two nights if all had been satisfactory, as it was, I felt we paid way too much!

Room okay, bar staff very good and freindly, evening meals ok.

Only serving contental breakfast ,no cooked ,asked for tea and toast ,did not get the tea and received the toast from another table which another customer left, went to a premier inn for a cooked breakfast.

    Location

We felt deceived. It is a really old inn and that's why we booked it but we had a dated 1970s room in a wing out the back.

  • Group of friends

    Very old with real character

Rooms were very very basic with very old furniture, apart from new tele. Bed with no headboard and made up of 2 matresses no base. Needs updating

Only the fact it was the nearest hotel to a Antique Fair we were attending.

Food was very average. Breakfast consisted of 1 piece of toast each, diy tea and coffee, cereals, and some rotten fruit ( 4 black bananas and two rotten apples). Rooms were very 'tired'. Curtains and valance on four poster were musty.Lighting was very dim.

The Faulty Towers of East Sussex run by Manuel!! The owner was incompetent and rude. He didnt have a clue as to what he was doing, just seemed to make it up as he was going along. He even had to put my credit card through several times to make it work and insisted on payment on booking in.The hotel was dark with cold corridors. The room was adequate but rubbish for the price, with a poor shower and a pathetic breakfast of burnt toast and bitter coffee served churlishly and with very slow service all round. It took an hour to get a sandwich for lunch and water was served in a bottle with no glass provided!
